So we could get by with a 140 mph speedometer pretty easily?

I think the software limits the top speed to 130 mph. 140 mph is reserved for the STI.

The video shows his going 137 MPH though.

I could certainly be wrong. I thought the OB was limited to 6k rpm and 130 mph.....could be 137 mph.....or the car in the video was going down hill.

His car has a cold air intake. That might account for something at 6k rpm.

I'd read about the 'shift' points that are programmed into the CVT. They are very pronounced in that vid. I would have thought the programming would revert to the optimum method of CVT acceleration for a WOT case.

Wow. I would have never guessed the Outback could do that.

The fastest I've gone is 134MPH on a straightaway across a swamp in a 1989 Daytona Shelby (worst care I've every owned). I got it to around 125MPH and everything else was a crawl to get it to the next MPH. The wind was just too great of a resistance against the car.

The Outback being a wagon, granted with more HP (≈250) than the Daytona (≈175) just hopped right up there. It's still not a race car but I'm still impressed.

I know he also had it tuned. Not sure if they were able to remove the governor of not.

My owners manual says top speed is 139mph. Never tried.

The can be changed on an STI so have to believe they can be changed on the OB. What few do not know is highest top speed and rpm are recorded for posterity and can be used against you in a court of warranty.

The video is not of my car. Check the video out, it's for a Legacy 3.6 that is bone stock. I did have a tune, but never had the audacity to take my car to it's top speed.

In New England with 65 mph speed limits, I generally try to keep it at speed limit + 9 mph on the adaptive cruise control. I'll move with traffic at 80. I don't think I've ever been to 90 in this car. Maybe for a minute or two before looking at the speedometer and slowing down. I've driven 200 kph+ on the Autobon many times. I don't need to take the risk of an expensive ticket, insurance surcharges, and a court date playing "how fast will my appliance car go?" games.

Got a chance to test the 2.5 in MT. The shift points in the CVT stepped up at 5500rpm - did it once around 85 and again around 105. That's where I backed out and coasted. If this thing has another "gear" that good for 105+ it's all I'll ever need.

Nice try officer.

The fastest I've ever driven my automobile is the posted speed limit.

Just my luck I post something damning here and my insurance agent decides to snoop and raise my rates. Stranger things have happened... That's why I'm so hesitant to post things here.

116 mph the other day. Had a wrx wanting some. He kept up until 100. I think this is where the extra 2 cylinders had the edge in the 3.6.
