Ktm Exc 250 2013

Thought I would post a review on my new bike and it's first ride.

I purchased a brand new 2013 KTM 250 EXC last Monday from Top Gear in Seaford, I have installed a force bashplate and force Rad guards. This is my first 2T I have owned and the second one I have ridden. I have been riding dirtbikes since Nov 2010, I started on a 04 WR250 and moved to a 11 WR450f April 2012.

Went to Neerim today with a few mates and hit some of the regular tracks to get a feel and good comparison to my last bike. I filled it up with 50:1 motul 800, 9.5 liters of Caltex's finest and set out with the boys.

This thing is light, which was the one of the main reasons for getting this bike, it is fast and smooth, point the front wheel and the back will follow. I was super impressed with the steering and how well the bike tracked. I loved the suspension, I felt it was much better at soaking up jumps and bumps than my WR450 was even though Chad had worked his magic on it. I feel that there is more travel up front and rear, a quick observation on the front forks when putting in my fork saver to tie the bike down I noticed plenty of space between the fork saver and the bottom of the front guard, on the WR I had to lift the handlebars to get it in there, not so with this bike.
I don't feel like I will need to adjust the suspension, I am 87kg in the buff :speechles
Even though I was running the bike in for it's first run, it still went more than fast enough for me, I felt the bike gave me more confidence in hitting obstacles compared to the WR.
I hit all the hills that I normally do on the WR, both slippery and rocky and this bike did it all with ease. I am super impressed with how well this bike just hits things and floats over them.

We did 74km today and the fuel level is still hidden by the shrouds, I will drain and measure how much is left to get a idea of how many km's I will get out of a tank. Not sure if running 50:1 makes the bike more fuel efficient than 60:1 but will measure after the next ride when I go to 60:1 as per the bike shops directions.

I will post up some vid as soon as it is ready.

This bike not only inspires confidence but add huge amounts of fun to the ride, which was the main reason for this purchase, I have ridden plenty of different bikes, I feel this one has it all, especially the fun factor, which for me is what it is all about.

Cheers,

Paul.
